Chelsea returned to winning ways after more than a month during which it did not taste victory in the Premier League, and its last victory was achieved over Luton 3-0 in the third stage on August 25. The “Blues” also regained their offensive effectiveness and scored their opponent’s net with two goals after they missed scoring. In their last three league matches, they lost to Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa by the same score, 0-1, and tied 0-0 with Bournemouth.
Chelsea, which achieved only its second win this season against two draws and three defeats, advanced to 11th place with 8 points, equal to Nottingham and Fulham in 12th and 13th places, respectively.
Chelsea won the southwest London derby with two goals in less than two minutes, scored in turns by Ukrainian Mykhailo Modric (18) and Albanian Armando Broja (20).
Chelsea, coached by Argentine Mauricio Pochettino, will host Burnley, bottom runner-up, on Saturday in the eighth stage.
