Chelsea have not stopped recruiting young players. This time it was the young midfielder’s turn Rennes Lesley Ugochukwu who was brought in.
Quoted from the official Chelsea website, Ugochukwu signed a seven-year contract after the medical test process and transfer documents were completed, Tuesday (1/8/2023) local time.
To bring in Ugochukwu, Chelsea had to spend 23.5 million pounds, or around Rp. 453 billion.
“We are delighted that Lesley can join Chelsea. He is an impressive young player and already has a name in Ligue 1,” said Chelsea sporting director Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley.
“He has so much potential and we know he will continue to get better and better.”
Ugochukwu is Chelsea’s fifth signing of the summer after Christopher Nkunku, Diego Moreira, Nicolas Jackson and Angelo. Uniquely Nkunku is the oldest recruit at 25 years old, followed by Jackson at 22 years.
While the rest are under the age of 20, they are Chelsea’s future assets. Ugochukwu himself is 19 years old.
The defensive midfielder is projected to be a replacement for N’Golo Kante, who will leave this summer. The Rennes academy product has 60 appearances with one goal and one assist.
Chelsea are also working on a move for AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi which is expected to be completed in the next 1-2 days.
