Chelsea closed an agreement with Brighton to take over the services of Spanish goalkeeper Robert Sánchez for 25 million pounds (29 million euros), various media reported on Thursday.
The 25-year-old Spanish international will compete for a place under the goal at Stamford Bridge with his compatriot Kepa Arrizabalaga, after Edouard Mendy’s departure for Saudi club Al-Ahli.
Sánchez had lost the title at Brighton to Jason Steele during the second half of last season.
The Spanish goalkeeper could coincide at Chelsea with the goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts, with whom he had already worked at Brighton.
The Blues’ new coach, Argentine Mauricio Pochettino, is trying to reshape the team after the club’s worst season in the Premier League in nearly 30 years.
Chelsea are also targeting another Seagulls player, Ecuadorian midfielder Moisés Caicedo. According to the media, Brighton would open the exit door for him if he received an offer of 100 million pounds (about 127 million dollars).
The ‘Blues’ will face Liverpool at home on August 13 in their first game of the 2023-2024 season in the Premier League. (AFP)
