Chelsea will pay around 27.5 million euros for Ugochukwu, who will undergo a medical examination in the next 24 hours. The French talent then signs a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge. It is not yet clear whether he will immediately join the selection of manager Mauricio Pochettino or whether he will first be rented out.
Ugochukwu made 35 appearances for Rennes last season. The 1.91 meter tall defensive midfielder will be Chelsea’s fourth summer signing after Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson and Angelo Gabriel. This brings the expenditure towards 140 million.
The Premier League top club has so far mainly kept a big cleaning. For example, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christian Pulisic, Mateo Kovacic, Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, N’Golo Kante and Cesar Azpilicueta said goodbye.
