Chelsea Signs Brazilian Youth Winger Angelo Gabriel, Barcelona Fails to Exercise Preferential Purchase Right

(Extended with the preferential purchase right not exercised by Barcelona)

Sports writing, Jul 16 (EFE).- Chelsea completed this Sunday the signing of the Brazilian youth winger Angelo Gabriel, 18 years old, but already with 129 professional games with Santos, from which he now arrives at the English club, as announced in a statement, which does not specify the duration of his contract or the cost of the transfer.

As explained by Santos, in addition, Barcelona had “the preference for the signing of the striker.” The Barcelona club “was consulted” by the Brazilian entity, “and responded that it will not exercise the right of purchase”.

Born on December 21, 2004 in Brasilia, the soccer player made his debut at just 15 years and 308 days in the Brazilian national championship, being the youngest player to do so, according to his new team. It was on October 25, 2020 against Fluminense in Maracana, with a 3-1 defeat.

His first goal was later, on April 7, 2021, in the Copa Libertadores against San Lorenzo. He was also the youngest to do so in that tournament.

“A left-footed winger used regularly from the right side of Santos’ front row”, as Chelsea explains, among his records for precociousness, Angelo Gabriel has already made 129 professional appearances for Santos over the last four seasons, with four goals and ten assists. In 67 of them he was the starter.

He has also been international in the lower categories of the Brazilian team, both in the sub’15 (six games) and in the sub’17 (two games) and in the sub’20, with four games. EFE
