Chelsea have sacked manager Graham Potter after less than seven months in charge following a 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday in the 29th Premier League matchday.
Former Brighton defender Bruno has been appointed interim manager. His first match will be the home showdown against Liverpool on Tuesday. “We have the utmost respect for Graham as a coach and as a person. He has always behaved with professionalism and integrity and we are all disappointed with this outcome,” club co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali commented in a statement. “Along with our incredible supporters, we will all be supporting Bruno and the team for the rest of the season,” they added.
Potter was appointed on September 8 on a five-year contract, but leaves the club with a very disappointing record of seven wins from 22 league appearances for the Blues. Potter’s departure follows Chelsea’s 2-0 loss at home to Aston Villa, a result that puts the west London club in 11th place in the Premier League table, 12 points behind Manchester United, fourth.
