Jorginho could just have moved to Juventus while still being trained Maurizio Sarri. Chelsea had rejected Jorginho’s barter offer with Miralem Pjanic.
The Italy international midfielder followed Sarri to Chelsea in the summer of 2018. However, after Sarri’s departure Jorginho still played an important role for the new Blues manager, Frank Lampard, last season.
Under Lampard, Jorginho was almost irreplaceable in Chelsea’s midfield and made 44 appearances with seven goals and two assists. The Brazilian-born player’s contribution helped Chelsea finish fourth in the Premier League and reach the FA Cup final.
Sarri stepped down from the seat of Juventus coach after Cristiano Ronaldo et al were eliminated by Lyon in the last 16 of the Champions League, a month ago. Meanwhile, Pjanic finally joined Barcelona after being bartered with Arthur Melo.
Agent Jorginho, Joao Santos, said Chelsea wanted to keep his client so they refused Juventus’ offer. “Last season, he played 40 games for Chelsea and is still a member of the national team,” he told Radio Rai, which was launched Football Italia.
