London, Dec 19 (EFE).- Chelsea qualified for the League Cup semi-finals against Newcastle despite being sentenced in added time. He was resurrected by an error by Kieran Trippier with a horrible transfer that Mykhailo Mudryk took advantage of and another error by the winger in the penalty shootout that sent the London team to the penultimate round.
It was a twenty-minute interval to forget about the former Atlético de Madrid player, who came out in the second half and destroyed the excellent defensive performance of Eddie Howe’s team, who were lucky enough to take the lead in the 15th minute and held the lead until the 92.
Callum Wilson, in a ride from practically the center of the field, stumbled the ball in front of Thiago Silva and, although Benoit Badiashile recovered it, the Frenchman tripped and left Wilson in front of the goalkeeper. There was no mistake in the definition and Newcastle took refuge behind.
The siege of Chelsea began, which suffered firsthand the countless failures of Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, who made his debut four months later. Pochettino’s men were also lucky to end up with eleven players, since both Moisés Caicedo and Lewis Colwill had to be sent off for separate squads, but were spared due to the lack of VAR until the semi-finals.
With Newcastle almost reaching the semi-finals for the second year in a row, Disasi’s cross from the right wing reached Trippier, completely alone, but the captain did not time the jump well with the clearance and made a mistake. His transfer was left halfway and Mudryk appeared to define with a bitten shot and send the game to penalties.
From eleven meters, Trippier Suyo himself missed the second shot. He didn’t even take a goal and made the ‘Magpies’ go behind, who conceded the game when Matt Ritchie also missed his shot. Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher, Nkunku and Mudryk got it right and Chelsea will play in the semi-finals of a competition they have not won since 2015.
