Chelsea fire Graham Potter 10 days before the Champions League duel against Real Madrid
The London club announced this Sunday the departure of the English coach, who had arrived in September and did not survive the defeat against Aston Villa, the second consecutive game without winning in the Premier League.
Graham Potter’s time at Chelsea has come to an end. Hired in September to replace Thomas Tuchel, the 42-year-old Englishman left the club on Sunday, one day after Aston Villa’s defeat to Aston Villa on matchday 29 of the Premier League.
“On behalf of the club we want to thank Graham Potter for his contribution to Chelsea. We have the utmost respect for him as a manager and as a person, he is someone who has always shown immense professionalism and integrity. We are disappointed with this decision but we will now give Bruno Saltor all our support so that he ends the team in a positive way”, can be read in the statement signed by Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.
The same note explains that Bruno Saltor, a former Brighton player who has been part of Potter’s coaching staff since 2019, will take over the club on an interim basis. He will already have a litmus test this Tuesday against Liverpool in a late game of the eighth day of the Premier League.
Chelsea, currently 11th in the Premier League, have 10 more Premier League games to play and are 11 points away from qualifying for European competitions. In addition, they will face Real Madrid in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
Arrived in September, Graham Potter has 31 games at the helm of Chelsea. He leaves with 12 wins, 8 draws and 11 losses.
