Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – English club Chelsea defeated its German rival, Borussia Dortmund, with two goals free, in a match that was held on the grounds of “Stamford Bridge”, on Tuesday evening, in the second leg of the round of 16 in the European Champions League for the 2022/23 season.
Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz scored the goals of the “Blues”, to ensure the latter qualified for the quarter-finals, benefiting from losing the first leg at the German club with only one goal.
Chelsea succeeded in scoring two goals in one match for the first time in 2023, as it stumbled on it in previous matches.
Raheem Sterling became second with 27 goals, on the ladder of the English players’ top scorer in the (Championship) competition throughout history, behind Wayne Rooney, who scored 30 goals, according to the “Opta” website, which specializes in sports statistics.
In the same round, the Portuguese club Benfica achieved a wide victory over its Belgian guest, Club Brugge, by 5 goals to one goal, in a confrontation hosted by the “Da Luz” stadium.
The Portuguese club won the first leg with a double, to qualify for the quarter-finals on aggregate, 7/1.
