Although group leader Chelsea immediately claimed the ball against the visitors from Rennes, it failed to be dangerous. Yet it was immediately price after 10 minutes. Dalbert brought down Werner in the box and the ball hit the spot. The German striker took the penalty himself and gave his team the early lead.
Chelsea remained the most dangerous team and continued on their streak. Rennes declined and when Abraham shot the hand of -again- Dalbert from close range, the Londoners were given a second penalty. A heavy verdict for the visitors because Dalbert also got his second yellow. Werner took his place behind the ball again and made it 2-0 shortly before half time.
After the break we saw the same game image. Chelsea showed no sympathy and 5 minutes into the second half Abraham made it 3-0 on a pass from James. Rennes could only try to limit the damage and it did.
In a lackluster second half, the visitors put their foot next to Chelsea’s and even got a few more chances. Doku also had something to do with that. Our fellow countryman eagerly responded to the hour and even scored. Unfortunately for the Belgian he was offside.
Nothing changed in the standings and Chelsea scores 7 out of 9 in the Champions League. Rennes, together with Krasnodar, is behind with a 1 in 9.
