Chelsea have made a bid for Southampton player Romeo Lavia on Wednesday evening.
Det melder Southampton Echo-journalist Alfie House.
“I have been informed that Chelsea have now made a bid for Romeo Lavia. I don’t have an exact sum, but it should be closer to Southampton’s asking price,” writes House.
The journalist works for the local newspaper in Southampton, and tends to have good control over what goes on inside the club.
£48 million
Minutes after House posted the twitter message came The Athletic-journalist David Ornstein with similar news.
He reports that Southampton have received a bid of £48m, including clauses.
“Talks are currently ongoing. Liverpool see Southampton’s pricing as too high, due to a lack of experience».
Well informed Ben Jacobs write that Chelsea have been interested for some time, and that the club’s sporting director Joe Shield is involved. He was previously a coach at Manchester City, and later brought the 19-year-old to Southampton.
“A problem in the negotiations (with Liverpool) is high agent fees on top of the transfer fee. Chelsea have not given up on Moises Caicedo, and the bid for Lavia is not a sign of defeat,” he writes.
The big question is how Liverpool, Jörg Schmadtke and Jürgen Klopp react to this news. Another question is what Romeo Lavia prefers. The Belgian has been clear that Anfield is the desired destination, but the question is whether that opinion has changed in recent weeks.
Updated news about the Lavia transition is expected continuously from Thursday morning.
