Chelsea make ‘positive progress’ in contract talks with Mason Mount | all football

Chelsea are close to reaching an agreement with Mason Mount over a new contract at Stamford Bridge, it is reported.

Mount came through the Chelsea academy and broke into the first team in 2019 under Frank Lampard.

He has since established himself as a key player and won the Champions League with the club last year, but recent reports have claimed he has “hit an impasse” with the Blues over a new deal as he prepares to enter the finals. 18 months of your contract

However, there has now been “positive progress” in the negotiations and the player looks set to sign a new contract, according to The Athletic.

It is understood that a “significant step” has been taken in recent weeks and Chelsea are now optimistic that Mount wants to stay.

The 23-year-old is currently out of England’s squad at the World Cup in Qatar and won’t return to his club until next month.

However, further talks are expected to take place in January and Mount could sign his new contract if all goes well.

Mount spoke of being “very happy” at Chelsea over the summer, but there were concerns he might have doubts about his future after he did not immediately follow Reece James in signing a contract extension in September.

However, these fears now appear to have been allayed and it seems likely that Mount will continue with his boys’ club.

Since making his way through the Chelsea senior team, Mount has become a mainstay of the team under the management of Lampard, Thomas Tuchel and now Graham Potter.

The midfielder has scored 32 goals in 181 appearances for Chelsea and has been voted the fans’ player of the year in each of the last two seasons.

The fan favorite was the only Chelsea player to reach double figures in the league last season, netting 11 goals in the top flight to seal a top four finish for the side.
