CHELSEA is looking at Inter star Denzel Dumfries as a replacement for Reece James, reports suggest.
James is expected to be sidelined for up to eight weeks after suffering a knee injury against AC Milan two weeks ago.
According to 90 minutesthe Blues have wanted to improve their depth as a right-back since the England international was sidelined and 26-year-old Dumfries is considered a priority.
Manager Graham Potter tried to use Cesar Azpilicueta and Raheem Sterling in the same position, but neither had the same impact as James.
West Londoners therefore seem eager to explore the January market window for a solution.
And Chelsea seem ready to rekindle interest in Dumfries, whom they targeted with Inter talks last summer.
The Dutch international’s name has appeared multiple times, but there are concerns about his £ 35m price tag.
Chelsea’s confidence in James has been unwavering and he should return to the starting lineup once he regains his fitness.
However, the Potter side still wants to add a high caliber alternative on the side.
James’s injury looks set to cost him a place on Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
