Chelsea, according to reports, have held talks with Folarin Balogun’s representatives about a move to Stamford Bridge.
The American striker returns to Arsenal after a successful loan season at the French club Reims, where he scored 21 goals last season. Balogun’s performances in France have only increased his hunger for more game time, which he may have to leave the Emirates Stadium to find.
According to “Football Transfers”, Balogun’s representatives have contacted Chelsea about the transfer. The Blues are now at the forefront of their pursuit of the United States international, who has attracted the attention of a number of European clubs.
The 22-year-old has had a breakthrough season in Ligue 1, with AC Milan, Inter Milan, Marseille, Monaco and RB Leipzig all on the radar. Chelsea, meanwhile, are still on the lookout for a No. 9 despite signing Christopher Nkunku.
With Chelsea in short supply following Havertz’s move to Arsenal, Aubameyang is likely to leave this summer after a disappointing spell at Stamford Bridge.
Balogun’s path to Arsenal’s first-team could be blocked by striker Gabriel Jesus, who recently revealed he has no intention of going on loan again.
He said: “All I can say is that I’m definitely not going to be on loan again. I’m not sure about the discussions that will be had, I’m not sure what will happen. But I’m just committed to the present and I’m trying to keep the status quo.”
The Gunners are unlikely to prevent Balogun from leaving if Arsenal receive an offer matching their valuation. Arsenal are believed to want £50m for the academy star ahead of a potential bidding war for the striker.Return to Sohu to see more
