Chelsea held by Crystal Palace at home

Chelsea led and dominated most of the time but were neutralized by Crystal Palace (1-1), Sunday at Stamford Bridge, two days after the closing of an extremely eventful summer transfer window for the “Blues”.

The west London club have experienced it all in three Premier League matches this season: a defeat (2-0 against Manchester City), a big victory (6-2 at Wolverhampton) and finally a draw.

It is far from being a dream start for the new coach Enzo Maresca and the American owners, still hyper-active this summer with a dozen arrivals and a good twenty departures, definitive or via loans.

The “Blues” took the lead thanks to their center forward Nicolas Jackson (25th, 1-0) on an assist from Cole Palmer, the fourth this season for the 22-year-old attacking leader. They were joined on a strike from the English international Eberechi Eze (54th, 1-1), one of the stars of Crystal Palace, now 16th in the ranking.

Another setback was that they lost French defender Malo Gusto to injury, who was forced to come off in the second half. In the standings, Chelsea are eleventh, just behind Tottenham, who were beaten 2-1 on Sunday at fourth-placed Newcastle, who are unbeaten since the start of the season.
