Marc Cucurella is “not good enough” to play for Chelsea, according to Frank Leboeuf, who believes the club were “crazy” to spend so much on him.
Being a Chelsea player this season is not easy, far from it. No Blues player has been spared criticism after the London club’s disappointing performances in the Premier League. Marc Cucurella, who arrived this summer from Brighton, and who has reunited with his former coach, Graham Potter, is no exception to the rule, quite the contrary.

The Spanish defender has yet to justify the high price the Blues paid to beat rivals Manchester City to buy him from Brighton last summer. He has started 16 times in the Premier League this season but has failed to impress with his performances. He was selected ahead of Ben Chilwell in September and the England star’s hamstring injury has allowed the former Brighton man to enjoy a longer spell as a starter.
However, he was unable to live up to expectations, despite the trust placed in him by Graham Potter. Now that Ben Chilwell has recovered, former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has asked Potter to start him in place of Marc Cucurella. “We hope Reece James and Ben Chilwell will be back in shape as soon as possible because we need them”Leboeuf told ESPN.
‘Cucurella is not good enough for Chelsea’
“We don’t want to see Marc Cucurella anymore. With all due respect to a man I don’t know, this player is not good enough for Chelsea. It’s as simple as that. It’s crazy that they signed him for 60 or 70 million pounds, but you can see that he does not belong at this level“, added the 1998 world champion.
Graham Potter continues to back Marc Cucurella, who he managed to bring to his full potential at Brighton, and has suggested the Spaniard’s off-field family issues have affected his form in recent weeks. However, with Ben Chilwell back, it remains to be seen if he opts for a change at left-back.
The Blues will be in action against West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday, four days before the Champions League round of 16 first leg against Borussia Dortmund. Graham Potter will quickly have to find the key to success, otherwise he will be dropped from the Blues before the end of the current season.
