Chelsea are in talks with Qatar Airways and two other major airlines over a new shirt sponsor. The London club, currently without a shirt sponsor, are targeting a short-term deal to remain more flexible with future sponsorship deals. If the club were to play in the Champions League again next year, it would also be able to earn more again.

Key takeaways:

  • Chelsea are in talks with Qatar Airways and two other airlines over a new sponsor.
  • The club deliberately opts for a short-term contract due to the lack of Champions League football.
  • Chelsea expect more financial benefits and better prices in the long term if they return to their high level.

Three airlines

The new season in the Premier League has been underway for a while now. Just like last year, Chelsea started that season without a shirt sponsor. Last season, the team could count on Infinite Athlete as shirt sponsor from the eighth match day, but that company only signed a one-year contract as main sponsor. This year, the logo can only be found on the sleeve of the training shirt and the shirt of the women’s team.

According to sources, Chelsea are in talks with Qatar Airways, who previously sponsored Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona. The club is also in talks with two other major airlines, whose names are still unknown. One of them could be Riyadh Air, which currently sponsors Atlético Madrid and was also mentioned last year.

One year contract

Just like last year, it would be a one-year contract again. In this way, Chelsea will try to get a better deal next season. If the team finishes in the top four and qualifies for the Champions League, Chelsea can ask for higher amounts for next season. This is because, in addition to the Premier League, there is also a huge audience, since the Champions League is broadcast almost everywhere in the world.
