Chelsea Defender Wesley Fofana Undergoes Knee Ligament Surgery, Facing Lengthy Absence: Latest News and Updates

London

Bad news for Chelsea who are currently in pre-season. defender Wesley Fofana could be absent for a long time after undergoing knee ligament surgery.

Fofana is one of six players who did not join Chelsea’s tour of the United States. Only Romelu Lukaku who was absent was not due to injury.

Fofana had a problem with his knee during a training session last week. The injury appeared to be quite serious.

As a result, the club’s medical team decided that Fofana must undergo surgery to repair the ligaments in his knee. This makes Fofana likely to be sidelined for a long time because recovery time usually takes at least six months.

This injury added to the gloom of Fofana’s career with Chelsea, which he spent more time in the treatment room. Since being bought from Leicester City in 75 million pounds, Fofana has only made 22 appearances.

The rest, Fofana suffered a knee injury last October which prevented him from appearing at the 2022 World Cup. During his recovery period, Fofana was injured in the match against Brentford in December.

After his comeback in February, Fofana started playing regularly and was injury-free until the 2022/2023 season was finished.

Wesley Fofana’s injury is likely to make Chelsea hunt for a centre-back again, including holding back young player Levy Colwill from leaving.

“The 22-year-old defender will not be joining the club’s pre-season tour of the United States due to the need to undergo knee ligament surgery as recommended by a specialist. Wesley will begin his recovery process and train with the club’s medical team at Cobham during his rehabilitation process,” said an official Chelsea statement.
