Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino insisted that the medical staff in the west London team is not responsible for the player injuries that disrupted the beginning of his career with the team, which is currently reeling in the English Football League.
Pochettino had only 15 ready players last weekend, during the disappointing draw at Bournemouth.
Despite spending about $1.2 billion on attracting new players after the club’s acquisition from a consortium led by American Todd Buhle in 2021, the Blue Team suffers from a major deficiency.
He missed 12 players against Bournemouth, forcing Pochettino to call up three players under the age of 19 who had not previously participated with the first team.
Among the occupants of the team clinic are the Frenchmen Christopher Nkunku and Wesley Fofana, Reece James, the Belgian Romeo Lafia, Carne Chukwu, Emeka, Trevo Chalobah, and the Ecuadorian Moise Caicedo, who is coming with a fantastic deal.
Chelsea ranks fourteenth with Yateem winning five matches, before Sunday’s confrontation against Aston Villa.
But Pochettino does not hold the medical staff responsible. “Before we came here, we did everything to create a clear picture of the heavy injuries last season, to analyze the risks.”
He continued, “It’s about the player’s file, the risks he’s exposed to. It’s not about the people working in the medical staff.”
He added, “I think we have to respect these professional and qualified sectors in the club. That’s why they work in football. There are individual risks for players that must be analyzed.”
The former Tottenham coach concluded, “There is also bad luck. We have injuries that happen in one season or perhaps in two seasons, but they happened with Chelsea due to situations that cannot be controlled.”
