Argentine Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s coach, confirmed that he cannot control the reactions of his club’s fans, following the team’s disappointing 0-0 draw with its host Bournemouth.
It appeared that a section of Chelsea fans in the stands booed Ben Chilwell, the London team player, after the match, which was held at Vitality Stadium, in the fifth stage of the English Premier League football championship.
Ben Chilwell participated as a substitute in the match, but he was unable to enhance Chelsea’s performance in the match, which took place in the rain.
Pochettino used two goalkeepers on the bench, as well as three players aged 19 years or younger, in light of the many injuries that have befallen Chelsea’s stars recently.
Mark Cucurella and Noni Madueke were the latest to join Chelsea’s injury list before facing Bournemouth, bringing the total number of players absent from the team before the match.
Some Chelsea fans expressed their disappointment after they booed when Ben Chilwell went to greet them after the match.
British news agency PA Media quoted Pochettino as saying: “What can we do? “For me, I have nothing to say. The fans can do whatever they want.”
The Chelsea coach added, “We know what we have to do. We have a lot of confidence in ourselves. We have 12 injured people, and in the match we had 3 or 4 young players, and two goalkeepers on the bench.”
Pochettino asked, “Am I about to cry? Or am I on my way to complain?” before responding, saying, “I accept this challenge, and I continue to be positive, and Bournemouth is a good team. Every team that competes with us will try to make things difficult for us, but we have to face it.” These circumstances, and being patient and positive, we will not change the way we approach.
Chelsea made a lackluster start to the competition this season, as it achieved one win, two draws and two losses, leaving it with 5 points from 5 matches in 14th place, noting that it did not score against its rivals in its last two matches in the tournament.
