Chelsea Co-Owner Todd Boehly Discusses Club Project in Interview

Out of nowhere on Wednesday night, Todd Boehly has an interview out where he talks at length about Chelsea and the project we have started.

It’s a great time – we’ve just played 5 impressive halves of football for probably the first time since he took over as owner of the club, and certainly the first time since he spoke publicly.

The Athletics you have very interesting phrases from Chelsea co-owner where he gives his latest comments on the progress of the project. He was clearly pleased with what he saw, and you can forgive his rather crude language in explaining it:

“It was so fluid, it was just how we pulled it up, when we came out of the back, we picked up and moved up the pitch, very organized and the number of shots we had on board. In those two and a half games, you could start to see what we’ve been working on coming together.

“Even the narrative has changed over the last two and a half games. I’ve never seen anything change so quickly.”

That last part feels very pointed, with Boehly clearly calling out critics of the project for flip-flopping back to positive after a few good results. We would urge him not to get too smug too soon – as he knows by now, you’re never just 90 minutes away from disaster in such a competitive league.

Chelsea celebrate victory at Stamford Bridge.

It is not clear whether this conversation is a response to the opinions from Mauricio Pochettino recently who basically said he hadn’t heard much from those upstairs Chelsea. I wonder if the coach has had a reassuring phone call in the days since then?

Anyway, it’s always interesting to hear the thoughts of someone in such a powerful position in our club, whatever you make of him or the way he does business.
