Chelsea behind ‘more than one’ transfer ‘approach’ for Bundesliga star

According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have made ‘more than one’ transfer ‘approach’ for RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano, who has now agreed to a summer stint at Bayern Munich.

Sporting director and former Bavarian star Hasan Salihamidzic confirmed that a deal was made for Bild’s ace last night, marking brighter news for the team following their Club World Cup triumph.

It is reported that Bayern will activate the € 42.5million release clause in the 22-year-old’s contract, which can be triggered from the summer as they have reached a five-year deal with the central defender.

Romano reports that Upamecano has received ‘more than one approach’ from Chelsea for his much-requested services, while adding that Liverpool are preparing to try their luck for the ace this summer.

Bayern have arranged a quality signing well in advance – and their rivals, with Upamecano replacing David Alaba – who are expected to walk away with a free transfer this summer.

News of the transfer deal came on the eve of Upamecano’s 140th appearance for Leipzig, the 6-foot-1 center-back establishing himself as a young defensive star since arriving in January 2017.

Upamecano certainly looks set to take the next step in his career, via a move to one of the biggest clubs in the world, it will be interesting to see how the recent French international star fares.

Chelsea’s interest in the Frenchman has seemed to increase a notch since Thomas Tuchel was appointed to replace Frank Lampard.

As I mentioned earlier, the fact that Bayern president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has been so outspoken about Upamecano, amid reports of discussions already underway with chief and manager Hansi Flick, it’s no surprise that the Bavarians actually won the transfer race. , they seemed very confident to do so.
