LONDON (AP) — Chelsea eased the pressure on manager Graham Potter on Sunday, picking up just their second Premier League win since October with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.
Kai Havertz headed in the only goal in the 64th minute, watched by Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk, introduced as a new Blues player at halftime.
It was an emotionally charged day in London, where Chelsea also paid tribute to their former striker Gianluca Vialli, who died this month at the age of 58.
The event, prior to the game, was attended by several former teammates of the Italian player.
And finally, the team left behind a fateful period of seven days, which included the defeat on Thursday at Fulham, where the brand new signing Joao Fálix received the red card.
Chelsea got just their second win in the last 10 league games, to give Potter some oxygen. The London squad was placed in tenth place, with the same points as Liverpool, located in tenth place.
Also on Sunday, Alexander Isak scored in the 89th minute as Newcastle also narrowly beat Fulham.
Isak, who came on as a substitute in the second half, pushed the ball towards goal after his attacking partner Callum Wilson served after seeing a header blocked by a full-back.
Newcastle returned to third place, due to the better goal difference compared to Manchester United. It is one point behind Manchester City, which is second.
Aleksandar Mitrovic had a penalty disallowed for double touching the ball.
