London –
Chelsea made a surprising move on Premier League this season. They registered the club’s technical advisor, Petr Cech, as part of a team member.
Cech, 38, is included as the fourth goalkeeper in Frank Lampard’s squad list. Previously, there were Edouard Mendy, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Willy Caballero.
Cech is actually not a foreign name for Chelsea. He was in the uniform of the Blues during 2004-2015. The man with the Czech Republic passport then moved to Arsenal and last for 4 seasons.
The problem is, Cech has retired since 2019, then returned to Chelsea to become a technical advisor. This is what is being questioned by the public.
In an official statement on Wednesday (21/10) in the morning WIB, Chelsea explained that Cech’s name was entered in case of emergency situations, such as the COVID-19 case that hit the Chelsea squad.
For example, if at least two of the three current goalkeepers are absent due to COVID-19, then Chelsea will only have one goalkeeper. Lampard did not appear to want to take the risk of promoting a goalkeeper from an untested academy, which is why Cech’s name was finally included.
Cech itself is a player without a contract. This means that he will only play when necessary. He was only registered in the Premier League, and his name was not on the Champions League squad list.
The winner of four Premier League titles is not without preparation. At the start of this season, he had been asked by Lampard to help train Chelsea goalkeepers, given the poor record conceded by the Blues since last season.
Chelsea are known to have fielded three goalkeepers in turns in the Premier League, and their goal has been broken 9 times in the five matches played. The details, Kepa conceded 6 times, Caballero 3 times, and Mendy was still on the clean sheet.
