Chef José Andrés, known for his social work with his NGO World Central Kitchen, awarded the Princess of Asturias Award for Concord in 2021, has responded harshly to the minister and leader of Podemos, Ione Belarra.
The leader of Podemos took stock of the situation in Ukraine a year after the Russian invasion and pointed out that “this war will only end with a negotiation to achieve a ceasefire or with a military confrontation between nuclear powers”.
“I regret to say that we are closer to the second scenario than to the first,” Belarra added to the media. Belarra has pointed out that it has been “a mistake” to have contributed to the “scale of war” because this has not helped Ukraine at all: “What we need to help the Ukrainian people is to open a negotiation endorsed by international organizations as soon as possible”.
Later, the Minister of the 2030 Agenda wondered if, after sending military material, the next thing would be to send Spanish soldiers to Ukraine: “It is evident that having contributed to the scale of the war has been a mistake. We have to put all our efforts, all our desire , in opening a negotiation endorsed by international organizations that achieves a ceasefire. Most wars end like this”.
A few words that the Asturian chef did not like at all, who has charged harshly against the leader of Podemos. “Mrs. Ione Belarra take a plane to Moscow. Meet Putin @KremlinRussia_E tell him to stop killing children, old people and women. Bombing schools and hospitals. Torturing civilians. Creating famines in Africa. Tell him to leave Ukraine. Ukraine defends its freedom,” José Andrés snapped at Belarra on Twitter.
A message that has caused a stir on Twitter and for which he has received comments of the type “dedicate yourself to cooking” to which he has responded: “Thank you Marc. I think I have the same right to comment and give my opinion that the rest don’t? I I’m not telling you if you know or not about football or Ansu Fati. I respect your opinion whether I share it or not… a hug”.
