Cheetahs Kate and Sara have given birth to three and four cubs. Kate adopted Sara’s boy shortly after birth, because Sara was not doing well.
Animal caretaker Mariska Vermij speaks of a special situation. “This has never happened to us. Sara was doing fine, but we saw her health continue to deteriorate. As a result, she could no longer take care of her boy and a cub died. Kate gave birth a day later, after which we decided to put Sara’s three cubs in the nest with her.”
Because six cubs is a lot to feed, Kate gets extra food, “but otherwise Kate takes good care of both her own young and her foster cubs.” Sara is also doing a lot better now.
