Because the negative news often dominates NU.nl, the positive news sometimes snows under. That is why we list cheerful messages. This week: the omikron variant of the coronavirus causes less long-term complaints. And a Turkish baby has been reunited with her mother after 54 days.
Omikron variant corona causes less long-term complaints than predecessor
One in ten people who have become infected with the omikron variant of the corona virus still have complaints after three months. That share is almost twice as small as after an infection with the delta variant of the virus, as it turned out last week.
People with post-covid syndrome suffer from complaints such as fatigue, shortness of breath, brain fog, memory problems and difficulty with busy environments for a longer period of time.
The beaver, the otter and the seal are doing well in the Netherlands
Alarming reports follow one another: Dutch nature is not doing well. But the beaver, otter and seal in the Netherlands, among others, are doing well. The beaver is doing so well that we sometimes find the presence of the rodent difficult.
Pike, tree frog and white-tailed eagle are also doing well. For the tree frog, this is due to conservation projects. The animal has therefore progressed in leaps and bounds over the past 25 years.
Turkish baby buried under rubble reunited with mother after 54 days
A baby who was buried under rubble for more than five days after the earthquake in Turkey has been reunited with her mother 54 days after the disaster. The woman was long thought not to have survived the earthquake.
The baby, more than three months old, lay under a collapsed building in Hatay province for 128 hours before she was rescued. The girl was believed to be the only family member to have survived the February 6 quake.
Even more news to make you happy
There was even more good news this week. Among other things, these messages, with big or small news, gave us a smile at the editor:
- Wages in the Netherlands have not risen as fast as last quarter in forty years. Employees received an average increase of 5 percent. On average, the increase was greatest in the hospitality industry.
- Despite the fact that the first oak processionary caterpillars will hatch in the coming days, the nuisance this year will probably not be too bad. This is because the number of caterpillars has been declining for years.
- A dog that was dumped in an underground waste container in Den Bosch has been rescued by the animal ambulance. It is unknown who left the animal in the dirt and who owns the four-legged friend.
- The result of the first check that Donny Roelvink had done after he was diagnosed with testicular cancer was all right. In December, Roelvink announced that he is suffering from testicular cancer. “My first checkup after my diagnosis. Everything is fine,” the reality star wrote with a thumbs up photo.
