Austin. The Mexican driver Sergio Pérez and the Argentine Franco Colapinto moved up one place on the starting grid of the United States Grand Prix on Sunday due to a penalty for the British George Russell.
The Mercedes driver, who was supposed to start the race in sixth position, will do so from the pit lane due to some repairs he had to make to his car on Saturday night, Formula 1 reported.
Russell had damaged his car when he went off the track in the final part of qualifying on Saturday at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin (Texas).
The Mercedes team then had to undertake the repairs in a period known as “closed park”, when the teams can no longer modify their vehicles.
Russell will have to start the race from the pit lane and the drivers who were behind him advance one position at the start of the test, which will get underway at 2:00 p.m. local time (7:00 p.m. GMT).
‘Checo’ Pérez (Red Bull) will start from ninth place and Franco Colapinto (Williams) from fifteenth.
The Argentine, who is competing in his fourth Formula 1 Grand Prix, had already gained another place previously due to a penalty against New Zealander Liam Lawson.
The British Lando Norris (McLaren), second in the World Championship standings, holds pole position ahead of leader Max Verstappen (Red Bull).
