What were once just old and expensive liras, now worth nothing, could actually hide a treasure. Be careful not to get rid of it, you would make a mistake.
We know that collectors are always on the hunt for those objects that have been part of everyone’s past. Just think of stamps, or postcards, as well as objects that are no longer used and considered useless. Some people, with the intention of emptying their cellar or closet to make room, tend to give away or, worse still, throw away these relics of the past. Not to mention the coins. How many of us have kept some banknotes or coins which reminded us of a very important passage in our history.
The transition from the lira to the euro was an important historical achievement for our nation, this is true. But many are melancholy and want to keep those coins of 10, 50, 100 lire, not to mention banknotes like a thousand lire. Some people also tend to frame them, while others have forgotten them in a drawer and perhaps don’t even remember having given them as gifts. Maybe some children will be using them as play objects. Well, these coins could be worth a fortune today, so it’s better to go hunting, in the drawers and in the most hidden corners, and see if you managed to keep some pieces.
The old 100 lire coins of the Italian Republic
It is these coins in particular that have reached a very important value. It is above all about the 100 lire version, of the Minerva typeissued way back in 1950 and in circulation until 2001. Its characteristic feature is the image of Minerva and in the background there is a five-pointed star.
The writings to pay attention to are “ITALIAN REPUBLIC” and “100 LIRE”. Il reverse side of the coin represents an eagle, the symbol of the Republic. Despite the different mintages over the years, the image of the Minerva has always remained the same. Some are limited edition and therefore highly coveted by collectors.
Depending on the years of minting the value of the 100 lire Minerva coin changes. The 1955 coin is worth from 800 to 1300 euros. The 1956 coin is worth 100 euros. The 1957 one reaches 250 euros. The 1958 version reaches 700 euros.
Then there are those from the years 1959-1960-1961 which are worth between 500 and 650 euros. Those from the years 1962-1963 are worth approximately 150 euros each. In short, pay attention to what you have at home or perhaps in an old wallet. You could have a fortune without knowing it.
