Check out the first Call of Duty: Vanguard »Vortex trailer

The developers at Sledgehammer Games have officially introduced Call of Duty: Vanguard. After an action in which players chased an armored train on the map of Verdansk in Warzone mode, the first trailer was released, which definitively confirms its commitment to World War II and makes it clear that the story part will not just be a poor pendant. We will look at the Western and Eastern Fronts, North Africa and also the Pacific, which corresponds to the heroes, who were indirectly revealed in previous days. Call of Duty: Vanguard will be released on November 5 for PC, PlaySTation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series.

As is typical of such announcements, the selected media obviously had access to all the information well in advance, and if you were to ask how much is actually available at the moment, the answer would be just my anxiety: “Yes…” I’m not going to burden you with unnecessary complaints – you’ve come to read about the new Call of Duty – but the fact that dozens of magazines had access to all the information well in advance and just released lengthy articles at the right time is quite killing. But let’s get to the game, which looks similarly pompous from the trailer as Call of Duty: WW2, or the last Modern Warfare. As can be seen from the beautiful animations, the developers at Sledgehammer Games certainly did not want to let the story stand on the other side and intend to stretch the players through all conceivable venues of the greatest military conflict in modern history. The story of the game focuses on four heroes, each from a different country and of course they will not know each other at the beginning. From the available information, however, it is clear that before the end of the war they will form a team and demonstrate the operation of one of the first special forces.

It is important to mention at this point that the developers themselves do not consider their game to be historically true. To the editors of the magazine Gamespot this was explained by game director Josh Bridge, who of course confirmed the use of the overall setting and iconic battles, but without any effort to tell a realistic or historically completely true story. By processing, Vanguard is far from the Infamous Pancharts, but it is not Brotherhood of the Intrepid. As for the heroes, their real names have been confirmed, so we will play for the British soldier Arthur Kingsley, the American pilot Jack Wade, the Russian sniper Polina Petrovová and the Australian Lucas Riggs. This opens up a fan of possibilities where we can go with them, but we don’t have to grope. Locations are also confirmed, so we will control Kingsley on the eve of D-Day during Operation Tonga, Polina will introduce herself during the Battle of Stalingrad, pilot Wade will fight the Battle of Midway, from which he will leave the 93rd Infantry Division after the crash and Lucas Riggs will finish wheel in the glitter at El Alamein. Everyone then meets near Berlin and becomes a strike force that must stop the secret Nazi operation Fénix.

While the campaign should be about human stories, in which there will be enough space for elaborate animations and dense action, an integral part of the game will of course be multiplayer. At this point, the developers present the Champion Hill regime. It’s supposed to be a mix of Gunfight mode known from Modern Warfare and battle ryoale. Eight teams on one map stand against each other and the one that stays alive the longest wins. The fact is, however, that the developers are leaving room for the moment, and Champion Hill is still shrouded in mystery, which the people from the Sledgehammer Games will take down later. However, they were disproportionately more shared about classic multiplayer, and closed presentations for selected media confirmed at the outset that 20 maps will be available at the start, of which 16 for 6v6 modes and the remaining for more dynamic 2v2 modes. As you can probably imagine, individual multiplayer games will offer tactics and action, always depending on the selected mode, and the menu will be subject to your own settings, filters or available playlists. The developers also confirmed that the maps will include more destructible places, which should open up further possibilities for combat and tactics in skirmishes with enemies. On the other hand, we should not expect destruction at the Battlefield or Rainbow Six: Siege level, as some media outlets point out in an effort not to make false promises to players.

In addition to the story part and multiplayer, zombies will of course also be represented in their own mode. The Treyarch studio works on it separately and the mode will serve as a prequel to the same mode in Black Ops Cold War. By embedding in the same universe, the developers want to underline the importance of this mode and establish a lore that will give the player the feeling of something familiar, but in a completely different backdrop and context. The third and final study to contribute to the entire Call of Duty: Vanguard experience is Raven Software, which is in charge of Warzone for a change. A completely new map is under development, which should be available on the day of the release of the basic game. At the same time, it will apply a new anti-cheat system and establish its own universe, so that even World War II additions will make sense with regard to modern Verdansk. But if we gnaw it all to the bone, it will be the first to shoot, and for this purpose, innovations are also being prepared for weapons management and the Gunsmith workshop environment.

You will find out in full how Call of Duty: Vanguard will be played at the beginning of November, but before that, of course, there will be testing within the alphaversion and beta version. Activision has not yet confirmed the official dates, but according to the leaks so far, it seems that we can trust them with regard to the confirmation of other reports from the same sources. The Alfatest should therefore take place from 27 to 29 August, but it should only be by invitation and for a more limited number of people. From 10th to 21st September, players on the PlayStation will play a beta, to which players on other platforms will join from 16th to 21st September. It should be quiet in October so that the developers can incorporate the latest changes, and in early November Vangaurd will be released. The first season in multiplayer should then start before the end of the same month.
