Whereas basic immunization is important for infants and children until the age of 18 months to protect against various other dangerous diseases that have been running so far.
“If many infants and toddlers do not receive complete basic immunization, there will be outbreaks of various diseases that can be prevented by immunization (PD3I) which will result in many children being seriously ill, disabled or dead,” Sri said at the 2022 World Immunization Week Press Conference. , Thursday (14/4/2022).
Immunization is an effort to actively induce or increase a person’s immunity to a disease, so that if one day they are exposed to the disease, they will not get sick or only experience mild illness.
Acting Director of Immunization Management, Ministry of Health, Dr. Prima Yosephine, MKM said immunization will form specific antibodies in individuals against certain diseases and is expected to limit transmission to other groups.
Prima reminded that complete basic immunization alone is not enough to provide protection against PD3I, because some antigens require a booster.

Here are some types of basic and advanced immunizations that should be given to children.
Complete basic immunization, in infants aged 0-11 months
- B0 1 dose, at the age of the baby less than 24 hours
- BCG 1 dose, at the age of 1 month baby
- DPT-HB-Hib 3 doses, at 2 months, 3 months and 4 months of age
- Polio drops (OPV) 4 doses, at the age of 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, and 4 months
- Measles Rubella 1 dose, given when the baby is 9 months old
Advanced immunization under two years (infants under 2 years), for children aged 18-24 months
- DPT-HB-Hib 1 dose, given to infants aged 18 months
- Measles Rubella 1 dose, given to infants aged 18 months
Advanced immunization for elementary school children/equivalent

Secondary immunization for elementary school children or its equivalent is usually given in the annual BIAS (School Child Immunization Month) program.
The immunizations given are Rubella Measles and DT in grade 1 children, Td in grade 2 and 5.
In addition, there is also an HPV vaccine for school students aged 9-18 years.

HB immunization is the Hepatitis B vaccine given to prevent Hepatitis B, which can cause hardening of the liver which can lead to liver failure and liver cancer.
BCG (Bacille Calmette-Guerin) immunization is a vaccine for tuberculosis made from attenuated tuberculosis bacilli by culturing in artificial media for many years.
The BCG vaccine is useful for reducing to preventing the risk of contracting the germs that cause tuberculosis by up to 70 percent.
Polio immunization drops are given to prevent paralytic wilt. Injectable polio immunization will be given once at the age of 4 months so that the immunity formed is more perfect.
Measles immunization is given to prevent measles which can cause severe pneumonia (pneumonia), diarrhea or attack the brain.
MR immunization is given to prevent measles as well as rubella.

The DPT-HB-Hib vaccine is given to prevent 6 diseases, namely diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, hepatitis B, pneumonia (inflammation of the lungs), and meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain) caused by Hib infection.
