Recently our Facebook page under increased scrutiny for “spreading nude images“. In the past few days, three of our posts have been deleted shortly after publication. This included two screenshots with all the covers from last Wednesday Books dark dragons records published by on the cover of the Orgies & Barbarians pictured but bare breasts drawn. From the same artist Erich Hartmann another erotic comic is published. It could also include the gladiator’s bare skin on the cover Track he can leave or lie naked on the pack of Track. Or just as well because on another cover Clark Kent takes off his clothes to reveal his Superman costume.
Today we had a cartoon in an article about the planned VAT increase on comics in the Netherlands Eliane Gerrits is set. She had pulled an orgy with only reading partners in that orgy. The buttocks and bare breasts depicted, in a caricatured-comic drawing style, once again activated Facebook’s algorithms to initiate censorship. As a result, our page cannot grow further until further notice (we filed a complaint, which was denied), although we rarely send out invitations to unfriend ourselves, and we are punished with less visibility on our followers’ timelines.
However, social media is not that important to our website, although the statistics sometimes help us to measure the pecking order of importance of topics. Although we put some effort into it just for fun, only a small percentage of the traffic to our website comes through social media, especially Facebook and Instagram. Most readers still find their way to our site automatically, we are among their favourites, there is the weekly newsletter, or they come to us through search functions to find specific messages and information. In the last twelve months, this resulted in nearly 2.3 million page views. Our reach increases year after year and as a result, we believe the website will be around for a long time. We only need pictures on our website – drawn! – so not needlessly censored.
