Amazon founder Jeff Bezos owns a huge superyacht. It is so large that it often uses ports for oil tankers.
As yacht blog Luxury Launches reports, Bezos’ superschooner, which is named Koru, is 127 meters long. This makes her larger than the allowable dimensions for many marinas.

Bezos’ yacht is worth $500 million. For one day of sailing, she spent $137,000 worth of resources.
Koru always sails alongside the 75m support vessel Abeona. There’s the helicopter, the jets, the supplies, the small boats and everything needed for Bezos’ water travels.
Almost twice the length of an Airbus A380, the Koru is an “industrial scale polluter” despite the presence of sails, a new analysis from Indiana University claims.

Using publicly available data, Indiana anthropology PhD student Beatrice Barros and anthropologist Richard Wilk estimate that Bezos’ yacht produces the infamous 7154 tons of greenhouse gases per year. The average American produces 16 tons of greenhouse gases per year, and the average inhabitant of the planet – 4. In this way, Bezos’ yacht pollutes like a medium-sized village in North America or a small town in Africa.
In an interview with The Guardian, Wilk explains that luxury yachts like the Koru are one of the ways billionaires are personally contributing to climate change.

“They must be manned and constantly maintained, even when moored. Then you have helicopters on board, jets, high-energy luxury items like swimming pools, hot tubs, private submarines.”
According to him, the huge electricity consumption is provided by diesel generators.
“It’s like having a hotel running on water all the timeWilk continued.
