Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – WhatsApp users should really pay attention to their account. This is because the WhatsApp messaging application has become one of the most targeted applications for cybercriminals.
WhatsApp does have an end-to-end encryption security feature where WhatsApp messages can only be read and seen by the sender and recipient of the message. But this cannot prevent WhatsApp from being tapped and WhatsApp being hijacked.
WhatsApp account is hijacked and bugged if there is activity that the user does not do. The following are signs that WhatsApp accounts have been tapped as quoted from the Cyber Police social media quoted on Monday (13/9/2021):
1. The user account suddenly logs out or exits the WhatsApp application alone
WhatsApp only allows the use of WhatsApp accounts with the same mobile number on one smartphone. When your WhatsApp account exits by itself, it means that someone else is using a WhatsApp account with the same mobile number on another smartphone.
2. Message has been read
You feel you haven’t read the message but the message has a blue check mark that has been read, most likely your WhatsApp account has been hijacked and bugged.
3. A message was sent to a certain contact without the user’s knowledge
If you feel that you have never sent a message to the person in question, then it is suspect that someone has hacked your WhatsApp account.
4. WhatsApp Web is suddenly active
To check whether someone else is using your WhatsApp account or not, click the three-dot icon at the top right of the WhatsApp application screen and then select WhatsApp Web mode. There you will see what application your WhatsApp is connected to.
