The Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov publicly expressed his grief over the alleged death of the leader of the Russian private military group “Wagner” Evgeny PrigozhinBTA reported.
Kadyrov offered his condolences to Prigozhin’s relatives.
“His death is a great loss to the entire country. We were friends for a long time,” the Chechen leader wrote on his Telegram channel after Russian President Vladimir Putin also commented on the incident.
Ramzan Kadyrov also touched on Prigozhin’s controversial actions in the past. “Prigogin has lost sight of the big picture in recent months. I asked him to put aside his personal ambitions in the interest of issues of key importance to the state,” the Chechen leader added.
After being drawn into the Russian invasion of Ukraine with their own fighters, Kadyrov and Prigozhin briefly united in their criticism of the Russian military leadership, but subsequently went their separate ways. Kadyrov agreed to put his own fighters under the control of the Russian militarywhile Prigogine refused to do so.
