Kadyrov posted a video of a phone call in Chechnya on his Telegram account, in which he said Russian MP Adam Delimkhanov was speaking to “our valiant people,” referring to his troops.
“Those people radioed to say they liberated the Mariupol authority building and raised our flag over it,” the Chechen leader said on his Telegram, which has more than 1.4 million followers.
“The bandits who stayed alive took no chances and abandoned their positions and fled,” he wrote Al ArabiyaFriday (25/3/2022).
He added that other units were moving in parallel through the city and clearing it of Azov’s “dirt”, referring to the right-wing Ukrainian group Azov Battalion.
“God willing, Mariupol will soon be completely clean,” he wrote.
In the besieged southern port, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said nearly 100,000 people were trapped without food, water or electricity and were subjected to heavy shelling by Russian troops.
