Kenyan Evans Chebet, already winner in Boston in April, won the New York marathon in 2:08:41. He offers his country a double after Sharon Lokedi’s victory in the women.

At 34 he won the best Ethiopian Shura Kitata, relegated 13 seconds to the finish line. The Dutchman Abdi Nageeye, silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics last year, completes the podium.

Chebet took control of the race after Brazilian Daniel Do Nascimento, who started like an arrow, went down. He never again gave hope to his rivals. He succeeds his compatriot Albert Korir on the list.

The famous race held on the streets of the Big Apple was the last of the year and crowned Kenya’s overwhelming dominance, with its runners taking a 6/6 in 2022.

Two-time Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge won in Tokyo (March 6) then Berlin (September 25), Evans Chebet in Boston (April 18) before New York, Amos Kipruto in London (October 2) and Benson Kipruto in Chicago (9 October).

It is the first time a nation has completed a Grand Slam since the World Circuit was expanded to six races, with the addition of the Tokyo Marathon in 2013.

Note the abandonment of Tadesse Abraham between the 34th and 35th kilometers. It was the Genevan’s main focus this season.
