Cheapest Countries for Recharging Electric Cars in Europe: Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and more

Neighboring Germany enjoys a discount of almost 15 percent. From the previous 0.38 euros per kilowatt-hour, the price dropped to 0.33 euros on Wednesday, August 16. In Norway, the charging current of Tesla’s supercharger even dropped by more than a quarter to NOK 2.2. If we converted the price to Czech crowns using Thursday’s exchange rate, one kilowatt hour in Norway would cost almost half the domestic price. Compared to the Czech Republic, Germany also offers a lower price, but only by a few tens of pennies.

Where is it worth recharging compared to the Czech Republic?

If you are planning a road trip around Europe at the end of the holidays, the cheapest way to recharge is in the Nordic countries, namely Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland, as well as the Netherlands. But it is also worth crossing the border into neighboring Austria or Germany. On the contrary, you will pay extra in Poland compared to domestically. In the same way, recharging at a Tesla supercharger will cost more in Slovakia as well.

Prices for superchargers depend not only on the specific country, but also on the given station. You can also ensure a more favorable charge by arriving at the stand outside the peak, when the price of charging current is lower. In addition to owners of Tesla cars, owners of electric cars of other brands can also use the supercharger. But they pay extra for charging.

Ionities: more stable but more expensive

Much more stable, but at the same time higher prices for charging current are available at Ionity stations. The BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, Ford and Hyundai/Kia umbrella joint venture cut prices on the same day as Tesla’s rival supercharger. However, unlike the American company, it reduced prices only in three European countries.

Specifically, the price reduction affected Germany, France and Norway. In neighboring Germany, you can recharge today for 0.69 euros per kilowatt hour. In the case of a monthly subscription, which costs 11.99 euros, then for 0.49 euros. In France, electric car enthusiasts get an even lower price, at 0.39 euros per kilowatt-hour with a subscription and 0.49 euros without it.

Although Norway is the cheapest country in Europe for a supercharger, this is not the case for the Ionita. Today, you pay NOK 4.8 per kilowatt-hour here, if you also pay a monthly subscription. Otherwise, the price is 6.99 crowns. But Ionity is not cheaper than rival Tesla in any country.
