Cheaper to live in a hotel than to rent an apartment. Surprising network offer – Portugal and Spain

In Spain and Portugal you can find hotels where a monthly stay will be cheaper than renting an apartment. The Spanish daily “El Mundo” informed about the unique offer on the Iberian Peninsula.

Until now, long-term hotel accommodation was considered a luxury that few could afford. However, during a pandemic and the lack of tourists, due to restrictions on movement, hotel rooms remain empty.

“We can offer more affordable prices”

The websites of the B&B Hotels chain offer rooms at prices from 500 euro per month. – Living in a hotel is a luxury, it can be comfortable and pleasant. If people have not used this option so far, it is because it was too expensive. But now the situation is that we can offer more affordable prices, Lucia Mendez-Bonito, director of B&B Hotels told “El Mundo”.

Many of these hotels were previously used as hospitals for COVID-19 patients, then as offices for remote workers, and recently long-term stays have been proposed. – The rooms are equipped with comfortable king-size beds and their own bathroom, and the price includes access to wi-fi, coffee and tea – says Mendez-Bonito. The basic price also includes parking and weekly cleaning; you can also purchase additional services.

– Now you can live in the center of Madrid, in a hotel room with a balcony, overlooking the Puerta del Sol, and in an interior designed by the famous architect Luis Vidal – emphasizes the director. You can go to Lisbon or Coimbra for a month and it costs the same or less than renting an apartment.

According to the hotel chain B&B Hotels, the offer may turn out to be attractive especially for young people who do not want to share expensive rented flats with other tenants. It can also be used by people working remotely or traveling from city to city.
