/ world today news/ The new vignettes for the Republican network, which are more expensive than the previous ones, have been in effect since midnight. There are no one-day vignettes in Bulgaria, the price of the annual one for cars is BGN 97, BGN 30 per month, BGN 15 per week.
New stickers can be purchased from gas stations, post offices, large retail chains, regional road authorities, border checkpoints.
Disabled people with 50 and over 50 percent reduced working capacity are entitled to a free annual sticker. Families with disabled children up to the age of 18 also have this right.
The Road Infrastructure Agency recommends that drivers purchase vignettes only from officially designated locations. Vignettes are sold in over 3,300 distribution points.
Against the more expensive vignettes, protests were held several times across the country. Regional Minister Liliana Pavlova stated that vignettes are not mandatory – whoever wants to travel – to buy them. All revenues from vignettes go to the budget of the Road Infrastructure Agency and can be used only and only for its activities, as prescribed by law, Pavlova was categorical. The revenue from the stickers for 2015 is BGN 230 million. From this amount, the costs of production and distribution are deducted, as well as for the 190,000 cars that use them for free. This leaves just under BGN 200 million, which API invests in the maintenance of the road network. A minimum of BGN 60 million is the cost of winter cleaning, and the rest of the funds are used to patch up the roads, which is why they are in such a state, said Pavlova. By increasing revenues, we aim not to patch the roads, but to make large-scale repairs, which have a more sustainable effect and maintenance will become easier, she stressed.
Regarding the real price of the vignette, Pavlova commented that the analyzes showed that it is about BGN 150, given that only this fee is used. That is why we are working to move to a mixed system by introducing the so-called toll fee (additional for using a specific road), she added.
