Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Samsung is reportedly going to release a cheap version of the Galaxy S23, namely FE (Fan Edition). According to South Korean media reports, Hankook Ilbothe FE series will be released around the second half of this year.
The decision to present a cheap version was taken again after Samsung’s absence from releasing the FE series on the Galaxy S22 last year. The reason, the global economy is weak and lacking chip.
The Galaxy S20 FE was a huge success with sales of more than 10 million units, while the Galaxy S21 FE, which was sold at a higher price, did not receive as good a response as its predecessor.
The report says that Samsung will basically replace handset mid-range Galaxy A74 this year with Galaxy S23 FE to avoid cannibalization.
The latter model may also be released in more countries than the Galaxy S21 FE which was released in several Asian, European and US markets.
Quoted from PhoneArenaFriday (17/2/2023), the strategy to replace the Galaxy A74, is expected to make sales of the Galaxy S23 FE better than the previous FE series.
Another rumor mentions the Galaxy S23 FE chipset that may be provided on this device. Instead of the Exynos 2300, the South Korean manufacturer will embed the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy.
The idea of producing FE handsets actually started with Samsung’s biggest smartphone failure, the Galaxy Note 7. It was a beautiful looking handset and Samsung foresaw a sales success.
However, problems with the handset’s battery caused several phones to explode, forcing Samsung to recall all units. The second model was released but this phone also suffered the same fate.
To prove that the problem with the Galaxy Note 7 is a faulty battery and nothing else, about a year after the Note 7 was first released, Samsung produced the Galaxy Note Fan Edition which is a modified Galaxy Note 7 with a better battery.
It is not yet known what price will be set for this cellphone. Referring to the Galaxy S21 FE released in 2022, the price is set at IDR 9 million.
