Baidu investors were disappointed with the presentation of the ERNIE neural network, an analogue of the sensational ChatGPT of the American company OpenAI. The stock quotes of the Chinese Internet giant after the presentation fell by 10% on the Hong Kong stock exchange, and according to the results of trading, their value was at a minimum since January 19.
During the ERNIE launch event, Baidu CEO Robin Li acknowledged that the company’s neural network is still far from perfect. Investors were also disappointed that the capabilities of the bot were not demonstrated live, but with the help of short videos recorded in advance. (On them, ERNIE did math, spoke several dialects of Chinese, and generated videos and images from text descriptions.) Finally, unlike ChatGPT, ERNIE will only be available to a limited number of users at first. In this case, we are talking only about corporate users – the media, banks, automakers and other companies.
