His team’s match against Les Herbiers on Saturday ended in a 2:2 draw in regular time, and the winner was decided by a penalty shootout. Visiting player Antoine Mille could have secured his team’s progress, but he failed at the crucial moment.
After a failed penalty attempt in the style of Antonín Panenka, the ball bounced off the ground even before the goal line and headed right into the hands of the opponent’s goalkeeper Teo Hamelin. He considered Mille’s attempt humiliating and threw the ball at him.
Despite this mistake, Chateauroux won the shootout 4:3 and advanced to the top 32 teams.
