Château-d’Oex: The 42nd Balloon Festival disturbed by the rain – Switzerland

Rain and wind played spoilsports at the 42nd Château-d’Oex International Balloon Festival (VD). Of the nine flight days, three were honored. Fortunately, the crowds were exceptional during the first weekend and the “Night Glow” show.

Despite the capricious weather, the organizers are satisfied with the smooth running of the event which took place from Friday 25 January to Sunday. With 17,000 visitors, the event ends with a satisfactory and stable record, they said.

This edition allowed the sixty crews from 15 countries present to make 207 flights and count 300 hours in the air.

Success of the Night Glow

Luckily for the public, the first weekend was exceptional both in terms of attendance and the number of hours spent in the sky. The second Friday was up to expectations with the success of the Night Glow, a spectacle that drew more than 5,000 people through the streets of the village.

The theme of science and the collaboration with CERN scientists, the conferences and the interactive activities were very successful. They offered great opportunities to diversify the festival’s programming in the future.

The 43rd International Balloon Festival will take place from January 23 to January 31, 2021. (Ps / nxp)
