REPORT: When you ski for several hours at a time, you naturally get hungry. Therefore, in Horní Mísečky, the lift operators and fellow passengers on the cable car alerted us to the local hut. It is called conveniently and simply: Chata Mísečky.
Although we have been going to the Giant Mountains for decades, we have never eaten there. We didn’t even know where exactly it lay. “A bit. Across from the parking lot,” said the lift operator, shovel in hand, as he shoveled away the freshly blown snow.
It was Sunday around 1pm. We already thought it was the perfect time for local businesses to be emptier. However, transportation became the first problem. The word “piece” meant about three hundred meters in skis, because it was impossible to cross the parking lot on skis. The stones safely impeded movement and destroyed the slide.
So we put our skis on our shoulders and set off.
Almost sweating, we arrived at the hut, in front of which there were five people. Three smoked, two drank beer. “Full,” one of them announced with a nice smile on his face. We went in anyway. Frmol, who reigned in the smaller space of the restaurant, can be compared to the top in public transport. The staff literally flew, carrying food, beer, taking away empty plates and loudly ordering new dishes into the narrow kitchen.

Bear is also an option
“There are two more families ahead of you, you can wait in the corridor,” the very helpful and friendly operator told us. Even though her hands were full of work and plates, she didn’t lose her cute expression. And so we waited. Thirty minutes total. Meanwhile, another eleven people arrived, most of them Czechs, a few Poles. Everyone got a recommendation for the restaurant there.
And no wonder.
If you were hungry earlier, you could of course use the Eduardo bistro on Medvědín. A hot dog here costs 75 crowns, sausage with bread 99 and langoustine 139 crowns. There are more to choose from. For example, potato chips (79 crowns) or sweet potato fries (79 crowns). But we wanted something standard.
After thirty minutes the table really became free and we were given local menus. The head waitress also informed us that they make their own pastries here. “So we get up at four in the morning,” she remarked without losing her friendly expression. The menu was truly unprecedented for the main season in the Giant Mountains. No other company in the Giant Mountains offers similar prices. And we are not talking about the portions, which were hearty.
Main dishes range from 199 to 279 crowns. You can choose from tenderloin with meat from the Basařovi farm, pork roasts, beef goulash, spaghetti Bolognese, stuffed potato dumpling. But also chicken cutlets with roasted potatoes, fried cheese (120 grams for 229 crowns) or salmon fillet (150 grams) with red cabbage puree and mashed potatoes.

We must praise
Because all the tables were completely occupied and more and more skiers came and waited, the smell of meat, griotka, onions, and grog wafted through the entire space.
It was incredibly refreshing.
In addition, which is worth repeating, you could feel how the staff cares about each guest. Every now and then they asked people if everything was okay, how they liked it, if they wanted anything else. For example, hot raspberries with ice cream for 135 crowns. We had a stuffed dumpling, lemonades, and tenderloin. Absolutely nothing could be faulted with the food. No service at all.
The corridor, floors, chairs in front of the entrance and the toilet were clean.
As we were leaving, a new family had already joined our table. “Sorry, those in the corridor were here before you, you have to wait,” said the boss lady. And she immediately gave the new guests their meal tickets and sent them to wait where we watched what was happening around us for thirty minutes.
