From now on you only need to use one app to communicate via Instagram and Facebook. Where you previously had both Instagram Direct and Facebook Messenger, the chat services have now been merged into Messenger. Facebook announces this.
In an updated version of Messenger, you will now not only find contacts from your Facebook list, but also people you follow on Instagram. As a Messenger user, you can indicate whether you want to receive chat messages from Instagram users. You even have the option to indicate where you want. There are two different options: whether you choose the folder with active chats, or the folder with chat requests.
The new feature will initially be rolled out in a number of countries and will later be available worldwide. It seems like the first step towards Mark Zuckerberg’s grand plan to combine the chat services of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
