Richard Bouvier had promised himself: to do the New York marathon the year he turned 50. It is therefore in November that he will fly to the United States to take part in the legendary meeting of all athletes on the planet.
“We are going as a family with my wife, Catherine, and our two children, Virgil and Côme. Until then, I am training hard!”
Because Richard is not a professional athlete. He works at EDF in Toulon but spends a lot of his free time running on asphalt or in the great outdoors. “I have been running for around twenty years. I run around three times a week: along the beaches of Mourillon, on the relief of Faron, in the forest of Janas, around the Parc des Lices… Toulon offers really an ideal setting to vary the routes and allow us to measure our efforts.”
The Grail: an official bib
After the race, he likes to “relax” on his bike where he covers between 50 and 120km. Then dive into the sea to swim between 500 meters and 2km. “It’s a great program but I love it. The triathlon discipline suits me very well!”
But wanting to do the New York marathon doesn’t mean being accepted. “Places are expensive and, each year, there are 50,000 participants. A sports association, the French Association of Runners, therefore helped me to obtain the Holy Grail: an official bib.”
This will be the seventh marathon run by Richard Bouvier after Marseille, Paris, Nice Cannes and that of Burgundy, his native region. “But this is a childhood dream that will come true. There will be around 400 of us from France. I don’t know if other Varois are coming but it would be good for us to meet again. United by the same passion .” The message has gotten through!
