The creation of new underground car parks is the priority of the Chartres municipality. Several projects are under study, including one in the lower town, near Place Saint-Pierre.
To meet the needs of future residents of the old centre, the City has launched a major study on parking. The CIRFA site, the Armed Forces Recruitment and Information Center, in front of the Lycée Marceau, at 1, rue Mendès-France, is being studied to accommodate the car park.
“We want to create there, at the gates of the old town, an underground car park with two or three levels, intended primarily for residents of the lower town”, explains Jean-François Plaze, deputy in charge of the Action heart of city. Studies should start in May with results expected in November. “Apart from the need to clear Place Saint-Pierre of parked cars, this project constitutes a real environmental opportunity by allowing us to provide a remarkable view of the churches of Saint-Pierre and Saint-Aignan as well as the cathedral. »
