Chartres: Lorillard, specialist in industrial carpentry, invests in unique robots

After its strong period of external growth, for more than five years, with the takeovers of several French companies, the group from Chartres Lorillard is tackling internal growth. It is one of the leading groups in industrial carpentry in France and it invests heavily in the modernization of the production tool. And robotization has an important place in this process.

70% of windows are manufactured and installed by Lorillard at its customers’ premises

“If we are the fourth largest French group in general, we are the first as far as wood joinery is concerned. It is for this reason that we have decided to continue our efforts to maintain our advances in this important segment ”, confides Thierry Luce, president of the Lorillard group. The manager confirms that the shareholders of the group, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary this year, have committed since 2019, and over five years, an investment of 32 million euros, including 17 million for woodwork.

Modern. One of the two robots newly arrived in the Lorillard wood lacquering workshop.

To project into robotization, the manufacturing workshops at the Chartreuse site have undergone significant changes: “We have installed a machining center with a double lacquering cabin for wood joinery with two robots. It is a unique tool by its size and its technology. It is the largest in France. It measures 1,000 m² and is capable of treating 90 wooden windows per day compared to 50 previously. We can increase this figure to 125 windows per day with the acquisition of a third robot. Without forgetting that the quality of lacquering is excellent. Drying is done under exceptional conditions thanks to infrared and without altering the wood. The first robot performs the printing phase and the second the finishing phase. Only two employees have been trained to operate this cabin, ”explains Thierry Luce.

The Lorillard industrial group is looking for 20 employees for its site in Chartres

On the environmental side, the new cabin allows the recycling of paint sludge by collecting water while being three times less energy-intensive in electricity consumption. “The consumption of paint is also decreasing thanks to the precision of robots”, adds the president of Lorillard, who says to himself that his group is proud to contribute to innovation, to the transmission of knowledge and values, in research. constant excellence.

Performance. The Chartres group is almost the only one in France to process windows of this size.

Lorillard is today the fourth French group specializing in industrial carpentry. In addition to windows, which constitute its core business, it has now broadened its scope to include all the elements that make up building facades. “This is to respond effectively to calls for tenders from local authorities and customers. 70% of our manufactured products are installed by us and only 30% are distributed by other professionals. Our annual production capacity has reached 322,000 units. ”
